DIDI Museum @40: To celebrate four decades of art, culture and heritage promotion, management of DIDI Museum on May 18 staged a series of events in Asaba, Delta State. The theme of the celebration was/is NO ART NO HISTORY, and it was conceived by Dr Newton Jibunoh, the soil engineer, and former CEO of construction giants, Costain West Africa, who is, however, renowned for his keen interest in collection of both artefacts and contemporary art works in all its dimensions. “Without the art, there is no history as the art documents our culture and heritage, and therefore history of civilisations over the centuries,” stated Dr Jibunoh in explaining the idea behind the theme. Today’s event is the 8 th edition in the series, and it is themed: Fine Art Interrogating Baba Ani Bass Saxophonist. Among the artists featuring, according to Ajayi, are: Duke Asidere, Tunde Soyinka, Segun Adejumo, Angela Isiuwe, Lekan Onabanjo, Jerry Nnubia, Emmanuel Isiuwe, Omozuapo Angela and Emmanuel Irokanulo, Aladegbogbe, and Jerry Nnubia. The ace photographer, Don Barber will also be on ground to record the moment. Baba Ani, as he is fondly called, is the famous friend and professional sideman of the Afrobeat creator, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He was leader of the band for 39 years, right from its formative stage as Koola Lobitos in 1959 all through its transformation to Afrika 70 and later Egypt 80.
