DIDI MUSEUM @40
DIDI Museum @40:
To celebrate four decades of art, culture and heritage promotion, management of DIDI Museum
on May 18 staged a series of events in Asaba, Delta State.
The theme of the celebration was/is NO ART NO HISTORY, and it was conceived by Dr Newton Jibunoh,
the soil engineer, and former CEO of construction giants, Costain West Africa, who is, however, renowned
for his keen interest in collection of both artefacts and contemporary art works in all its dimensions.
“Without the art, there is no history as the art documents our culture and heritage, and therefore history of
civilisations over the centuries,” stated Dr Jibunoh in explaining the idea behind the theme.
One of the events staged was the Virtual conference themed: "My JOURNEY with DIDI Museum", which
featured a session of reflections and recollections by a group of artists who had been part of the
"Didi Family" which featured the cartoonist-painter-sculptor, Kenny Adamson; and the engineer-painter and
photographer, Adamu Ajunam; the renowned painter-cartoonist, Josy Ajiboye, and the painters Lara Ige Jacks,
Tunde Soyinka, Zinno Orara, Osahenyen Kainebi and others.
Others who shared memories about the museum were journalists and historian and friends and patrons of the museum.
These include popular arts writers and documentarists such as Ben Tomoloju, Gbile Oshadipe, Akin Onipede, Tunde Lanipekun,
Toyin Akinosho, , Bolaji Alonge, and others.
The session themed, “MY JOURNEY WITH DIDI” was prefaced with a keynote by Nath Mayo Adediran, the former
Federal Director of National Museums and Monuments, who was key to gathering the earlier collections by the museum,
